The University of Mary Washington athletic department has completed removations for several key areas at the Facilities Services building at the Battleground, and is set to open usage with the new semester.
The areas, centrally located at the Battleground adjacent to the track facility, will have a brand new look with the start of classes, with an upgraded team meeting room, a more expansive and improved locker room, and an expanded athletic training area.
"We're really excited about the renovations to some of our outdoor sport facilities", said UMW Director of Athletics Ken Tyler. "This large-scale project will positively impact hundreds of student-athletes and demonstrates our ongoing commitment to their success. Special thanks to Director of Athletic Facilities Rod Wood for his great work coordinating this project."
The projects are the first phase of a series of improvements at the Battleground, which includes new irrigation systems at the soccer, baseball, and softball facilities, renovations at the baseball stadium, new netting and screens at the baseball and softball stadiums, upgrades in the press boxes at the soccer and field hockey/lacrosse stadiums, hard wired internet capability at the track, and repairs to the tennis courts.
