Men's Rowing Team Sees Varsity Eight Take Third at Head of the Occoquan

The University of Mary Washington men's rowing team competed at the Head of the Occoquan Regatta on Saturday, highlighted by a third place finish by the varsity eight boat. The freshman eight finished in eighth place in its event, and the collegiate four took 16th among 30 boats.
The varsity eight took third place with a time of 16:43.93, just behind George Mason and Pittsburgh, and just ahead of William and Mary. Members of that boat were Daniel Zimmerman, Robert Cowley, Kevin Tyler, Michael Winkler, Daniel Smith, Daniel Russell, William Bennett, Patrick Wood, and Kelley Wheaton.
The freshman eight finished with a time of 19:15.52, as the top NCAA Division III school in the event. Georgetown won the race. The collegiate four finished 16th at 19:53.65, and the Eagles' B boat finished in 27th place.
The men will return to action on April 3 at the Murphy Cup in Philadelphia, Pa.
