UMW Women's Basketball Falls to Wisconsin-Stevens Point, 56-54

DAYTONA, FLA - The University of Mary Washington women's basketball team dropped a 56-54 decision to the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point on Wednesday in Daytona Beach, Fla., dropping its season record to 6-3.

The Eagles fell behind early, 8-5, but tied the score at nine with 12:29 to play on a Jenna McRae (Springfield, Va., Annandale) jumper. Stevens Point used a 9-0 run to lead 21-12 with 6:37 in the half, but the Eagles stormed back to to cut the deficit to one at 24-23 before trailing at the half, 26-23.

Mary Washington kept the deficit between two and six points for the entire second half, and were able to knot the score on several occasions, but were unable to ever grab the lead. McRae's last-minute three-pointer cut the deficit to the final two-point margin.

McRae led the Eagles with 18 points and six rebounds, while freshman Carol Dye (Springfield, Va., Lake Braddock) added eleven points. Katie Wimmer (Vienna, Va., James Madison) and Lauren Kornacki (Glen Allen, Va., Deep Run) each grabbed eight rebounds to lead UMW.

Mary Washington will be back in action on January 6 when the Eagles visit Stevenson University at 5:00 p.m. in Capital Athletic Conference action.
