UMW Men's Basketball Falls to Marymount, 73-64

FREDERICKSBURG, VA - The Marymount University men's basketball team jumped out to an early lead and never looked back in a 73-64 victory over the University of Mary Washington on Saturday in Capital Athletic Conference action. The Eagles fall to 6-8 overall and 3-3 in league play, while the Saints improve to 10-6 and 5-2.

Marymount built a 13-6 advantage six minutes into play, but UMW was able to tie the score at 13, and again at 15 with 9:33 left in the half. Marymount used a 7-0 to take a 22-15 advantage, and led, 38-28, at intermission. The Saints made 6-9 three pointers in the opening stanza.

Marymount opened the second half with five straight points to lead 43-28. UMW cut into the deficit, and trailed 47-41 with 13:32 to play. The Eagles were able to cut the deficit to three on three occasions, but were unable to find the tying or go-ahead score.

The Eagles were led by Brandon Altmann (Vienna, Va., James Madison)'s 18 points and nine rebounds, while freshman guard Bart Reese (Herndon, Va., Oakton) added 17 points. Marymount was led by Ronnie Barbour's 14 points. The Eagles shot 48% from the field, while the Saints shot 45%, but the Eagles struggled at the free throw line, going 12-22, and committed 19 turnovers.

Mary Washington will visit Salisbury University in another CAC contest on Monday at 8:00 p.m.
