UMW Men's Basketball Tops Gallaudet, 91-80, in CAC Play

FREDERICKSBURG, VA - Sophomore guard Bart Reese (Herndon, Va., Oakton) led five players in double figures with 19 points in leading the University of Mary Washington men's basketball team to a 91-80 win over Gallaudet university on Saturday at Goolrick Gymnasium. The Eagles improve to 6-6 overall, and 3-1 in Capital Athletic Conference play.

The Eagles held a slim lead throughout the first half, and held a 36-30 halftime advantage. Guards Qaiser Ahmed (Falls Church, Va., George C. Marshall) and Ryan Farrar (Ashburn, Va., Centreville, Va.) each scored seven first half points for UMW. The second half saw the Eagles extend its lead to as many as 24 points, before the Bison made a late charge to close the final gap to 91-80.

In addition to Reese's 19 points, senior forward Eric Rolander (Alexandria, Va., Gonzaga) had 15 points and six rebounds, senior center Brandon Altmann (Vienna, Va., James Madison) scored 13 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, sophomore forward Tad Dickman (Springfield, Va., Robert E. Lee) added 12 points, and Ahmed finished with 11 points.

Gallaudet was led by Luther Weedon's 15 points in 12 minutes.

Mary Washington shot 49.1% from the floor in the game (28-57), and converted on 28-38 free throws. Gallaudet shot 43.9% (29-66), including 14 three-pointers, and went 8-14 from the foul line. Both teams committed 21 turnovers each.

The Eagles will visit St. Mary's College on Wednesday at 8:00 p.m. in another CAC contest.
