The University of Mary Washington softball team dropped the opener in its Wednesday doubleheader with Shenandoah University, 10-2, before playing the Hornets to a 4-4 tie in the nightcap. The Eagles move to 4-13-1 on the season.

In the opener, the Eagles fell behind early, as Shenandoah scored six times in the first inning. UMW answered in the bottom of the inning, as sophomore pitcher Elizabeth Crowe (Alexandria, Va., West Potomac) helped her own cause with a solo home run. The Hornets would add one in the second, two in the sixth and one in the seventh for the 10-2 victory. The Eagles had four hits, as Koah Chitty (Stafford, Va., Brooke Point), Kim Olinger (Bealeton, Va., Liberty), and Morgan Lamon (Herndon, Va., Oakton) added hits to Crowe's long fly.

The second game saw the Eagles fall behind, take the lead on two occasions, but settle for a 4-4 tie. Krissy Leber (Mechanicsville, Va., Atlee) and Lamon led the Eagles with two hits apiece, while Crowe added a hit, a walk, and two runs scored. Freshman Annie Blaine (Arlington, Va., Yorktown) struck out four in scattering 13 hits in game two as UMW's pitcher.
