KISSIMMEE, FLA - Sophomore All-American
Catherine Kennedy (Baltimore, Md., Baltimore Lutheran) scored five goals and one assist, and the UMW defense, led by
Jenny Atmar (Houston, Texas, Bellaire),
Allison Hess (Woodbridge, Va., Potomac), and
Ellen Bikowski (Fairfax, Va., Bishop O'Connell) held 16th ranked St. John Fisher's potent offense in check in a 13-12 Eagle victory on Friday at Disney's Wide World of Sports. The Eagles improve to 2-1 on the season after opening aginst three straight nationally-ranked opponents.
In addition to Kennedy's stellar play, freshman
Sara Donatich (Melville, N.Y., Walt Whitman) and sophomore
Lauren Callison (Stevensville, Md., Kent Island) each scored a pair of goals, while
Brittany Butler (Easton, Conn., Joel Barlow) and
Katie Wallis (Cypress, Texas, Cy-Creek) each scored once and assisted on one goal. Freshman
Adele Hawley (Lutherville, Md., St. Pauls) added her first collegiate goal, and sophomore
Allie Kimmelman (Burke, Va., Robinson) assisted on two scores as well.
Freshman goalkeeper
Leigh Ann Redefer (Lewes, Del., Cape Henlopen) made seven saves for the Eagles. Mary Washington will visit St. Mary's College in their Capital Athletic Conference opener on March 9 at 4:00 p.m.
