The University of Mary Washington field hockey team dropped its second straight road game to a nationally-ranked opponent  on Saturday, falling at top-ranked Salisbury University, 2-1. The Eagles fall to 0-2 on the year.

Salisbury opened the scoring just before halftime, as Erica Henderson scored unassisted with 6:02 left on the first half clock. The Sea Gulls scored again 1:20 into the second half on a goal by Caitlin Walker to push the lead to 2-0.

The Eagles cut the deficit to 2-1 with 24 minutes remaining, as junior Kaitlyn Ripley (Stafford, Va., Stafford) scored on a Morgan Jones (Williamsburg, Va., Walsingham Academy) assist for her first score of the season.

Salisbury outshot the Eagles, 14-5, and had 16 penalty corners to three for UMW. Chrissy Bowdren (Fairfax Station, Va., Robinson) had five saves for UMW, while Salisbury's Anna Cooke had one stop for the Seagulls.

Mary Washington will be back on the road on Wednesday when they visit Bridgewater College at 4:30 p.m.
