The University of Mary Washington baseball team erupted for 32 runs in sweeping a doubleheader from Penn State Harrisburg on Sunday afternoon at Dickinson Stadium. The Eagles, who won the opener 20-0 and the nightcap 12-2, improve to 5-0 on the season.
In the opener, UMW rapped out 17 hits, led by Jackson Clement (Fairfax, Va., Woodson) 's single and three-run homer, while Eric Rehbein (Alexandria, Va., Gonzaga), Beattie Southerland (Purcellville, Va., Loudoun Valley), Brent Steffey (Colonial Beach, Va., Colonial Beach), and Jeff Rezach (Mendham, N.J., West Morris Mendham) each added two hits. Shane Sixsmith (Alexandria, Va., West Potomac) and Southerland also added three RBI apiece.
On the mound, Rehbein earned his second win, allowing three hits in five innings with no walks and five strikeouts. Nick Corbin (Staunton, Va., Buffalo Gap) and Dan Murdoch (Newtown, Conn., Newtown) each pitched scoreless innings of relief.
In game two, Southerland went 3-4 with two runs scored and three RBI and Rehbein added a single and triple and three RBI. Freshman Jake Black (Fredericksburg, Va., Colonial Forge) allowed two hits and no runs in five innings with four walks and six strikeouts.
The Eagles will visit Stevenson University on Thursday afternoon in the Capital Athletic Conference opener at 2:30 p.m.
