#12 UMW Field Hockey Tops Randolph-Macon, 4-0

Senior forward Kaitlyn Ripley (Stafford, Va., Stafford) scored a pair of second half goals to propel the 12th ranked University of Mary Washington field hockey team to a 4-0 victory over Randolph-Macon College on Sunday in Fredericksburg. The Eagles, who also received a goal and an assist from sophomore Caitlin Baker (Falls Church, Va., McLean) and junior Lisa Charney (Fairfax, Va., Fairfax), improve to 6-1 on the season.

The Eagles had numerous chances in the first half, but were unable to score, as the game stood at 0-0 through halftime. But Ripley got the Eagles' potent offense on track on an assist from Baker less than two minutes into the second half. Ripley scored again unassisted off the keeper's pads less than four minutes into the half, giving the Eagles a 2-0 advantage.

Charney added her 10th goal of the season with 5:17 remaining on a breakaway, and Baker scored with 1:48 to play on a penalty corner assisted by Florence George (Virginia Beach, Va., Princess Anne) and Charney.

Mary Washington led in shots, 27-12, and had 12 penalty corners to seven for the Yellow Jackets. Junior goalkeeper Claire Gianelle (Salisbury, Md., Parkside) had seven saves for UMW in recording the shutout.

The Eagles will return to action on Wednesday when they visit 11th ranked Catholic University at 7:00 p.m.
