The University of Mary Washington fall athletic teams begin their quests for Capital Athletic Conference Championships this weekend.
The men's and women's cross country teams will travel to Frostburg, Md., on Saturday for the 2012 CAC Championships. UMW's men have won 13 titles over the years, with the women winning 16 - the highest totals by any school in league history. The championships start at 11:00 a.m.
The Eagle women's soccer team begins CAC tournament play on Saturday with a 2 p.m. home contest against St. Mary's College. The Eagles, 13-1-2 on the year, have won a league-record 13 CAC titles, and have the best overall record in the league this season at 13-1-2.
The UMW men's soccer team begins its march to a league crown on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at Marymount University. The Eagles, 10-6-1, will first face #14 Christopher Newport University today at 3:30 p.m. at the Battleground. UMW has won a league-record eight conference titles.
UMW's volleyball team finished the regular season in a three-way tie for second place in the league standings, and will be the fourth seed in the CAC Tournament, which begins next Tuesday, October 30. UMW will host Frostburg State University on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in first round action.
The Eagle field hockey team, who won the CAC regular season title with a 16-1 overall record and perfect 5-0 league mark, recieve a first round bye in next week's CAC Tournament, and will host either York College or St. Mary's College next Wednesday, October 31, at 2:30 p.m. in the league semifinals. With a win, UMW would host the CAC Championship next Saturday, November 3, at 2:00 p.m.
