Junior Harry Snyder (Charlottesville, Va., St. Anne's-Belfield) scored four goals and seniors Kohl Meyer (Shawnee, N.J., Shawnee) and Mark Bowler (Cary, N.C., Cary) each added three to lead the University of Mary Washington men's lacrosse team to a 13-7 win over McDaniel College on Saturday at the Battleground. UMW evens its season record at 2-2.
Bowler and senior Evan Weiss (Oakton, Va., Madison) each scored early to give the Eagles a 2-0 lead, but the Green Terror roared back with four straight goals to take a 4-2 advantage into the second quarter. UMW dominated the second quarter, outscoring the guests, 6-1, thanks to two scores each from Meyer and Snyder and single goals from Chip Pittard (Setauket, NY, Ward Melville) and Bowler. The Eagles led at halftime, 8-5.
Each team scored twice in the second half, with Luke Dick (Annapolis, MD, Archbishop Spaulding HS) and Bowler finding the net for UMW. The Eagles won the fourth quarter, 3-0, thanks to two goals from Meyer and one from Snyder. Evan Weiss picked up assists on three of the Eagles' final four goals.
McDaniel led in shots, 38-27, and had 29 ground balls to 23 for the Eagles. The Green Terror won 14 of 22 faceoffs. Senior goalie Ryan Kleman (Fairfax, VA, Robinson) had 13 saves for the Eagles, while Ty Wittelsberger had nine for McDaniel.
The Eagles will be back in action on March 6 at Christopher Newport University at 1:00 p.m.
