The University of Mary Washington men's lacrosse team used a 5-0 scoring spurt in the third quarter after a 7-7 tie at halftime in claiming a 16-8 victory at Wesley College on Saturday in Dover, Del. The Eagles improve to 9-5 on the season, and 5-2 in Capital Athletic Conference play.
The Eagles opened the third with six straight goals, with two each from seniors Mark Bowler (Cary, N.C., Cary), Evan Weiss (Oakton, Va., Madison), and Kohl Meyer (Shawnee, N.J., Shawnee), who led UMW with four goals on the day to go with two assists. Bowler scored three times, and junior Harry Snyder (Charlottesville, Va., St. Anne's-Belfield) scored two goals and added two assists. Sean Dacey (Round Hill, Va., Loudoun Valley) each also found the nets twice for UMW.
The Eagles led in shots, 47-37, and in ground balls, 39-30. Senior goalkeeper Ryan Kleman (Fairfax, VA, Robinson) made 17 saves for Mary Washington. The Eagles converted on three extra-man attempts, and converted 11-15 clears.
Mary Washington will close the regular season on Thursday as they host York College with third place in the CAC standings on the line. Game time is 4:00 p.m.
