Senior midfielder Matt Poole scored in the 70th minute to propel the University of Mary Washington men's soccer team to a 1-0 victory at Virginia Wesleyan College on Wednesday night in Virginia Beach. The Eagles improve to 6-5 on the season.
After a scoreless first half, the Eagles found the nets at 69:53 when his shot deflected off the VWC goalkeeper and into goal. In all, the Eagles led in shots, 14-12, but Va. Wesleyan had just one shot on frame all evening. UMW also held a 9-3 advantage in corner kicks.
UMW sophomore goalkeeper Tyler Back made one save for the Eagles.
Mary Washington will host Wesley College on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. in Capital Athletic Conference action.
