Anderson Takes 2nd in 200 Fly To Highlight Busy Friday at NCAA Swimming Championships
Sophomore Alex Anderson finished second in the 200 yard butterfly, just missing out on a second national title by .07 of a second, to highlight a busy day for the University of Mary Washington men's and women's swim teams at the NCAA Division III National Championships.
Swimming from lane three, Anderson finished the 200 yard race at 1:46.71, more than second faster than his morning swim. Junior Amber Kerico finished 13th in the 100 yard breastsroke at 1:04.69, gaining All-America honors for the second straight year.
In the Friday morning preliminaries, freshman Katie Fago finished 38th in the 100 yard backstroke at 59.46, and Michael Yelgren took 30th in the 100 backstroke at 51.30. Peter Slattery took 24th in the 100 yard breaststroke at 57.38.
The men's 800 free relay of Anderson, Nick Eckhoff, Jack McHugh, and Sean Mayer finished in 18th place at 6:52.20. Also, Yelmgren's leadoff leg in Thursday's 400 medley relay broke the school and CAC records in the 100 backstroke.
The championships will conclude on Saturday.
