The University of Mary Washington Rowing Team enjoyed mostly sunny skies and warm temperatures as they competed at the Mid-Atlantic Rowing Conference championship regatta on Lake Pinchot, Pennsylvania. Mary Washington was a founding member of this conference, but subsequently left the conference when rowing was no longer a varsity sport at UMW. After a one-hour fog delay, crews began racing with very light headwinds, but these became significantly stronger as the day progressed. Thunderstorms cause the last few races of the day to be cancelled.
The men's freshmen 4+ heat race was rowed very well by the Mary Washington crew of Angus Long, John Wray, Chris Kostrzewa, Max Radel, and coxswain Anna Kathleen Camper, advancing them to the Grand final. In the heat race, the Mary Washington crew finished in second place, just 3 seconds behind Loyola, and well ahead of St. Mary's, Maryland, and Franklin & Marshall. The second heat race in this event saw Rhode Island winning, with Lafayette in second place, followed by four other entries. In the Grand Final race in the early afternoon, the UMW crew faced stronger headwinds, but hung on to take a very strong second place and the silver medal, just 5 seconds behind the winning crew from Loyola. UMW finished well ahead of Lafayette, St Mary's, Maryland, and Rhode Island.
The Mary Washington men's varsity pair of Kyle Moran and Sean Ingraham were leading at the halfway point, but a clashing of oars with the second place Loyola crew ended the UMW hopes and allowed the third-place crew from Washington College to slip past for the win.
The men's 8+ heat race saw the Mary Washington crew finishing in fourth place behind Marietta, George Mason, and Washington College, and ahead of Technical College of New Jersey, earning UMW a spot in the petite finals. The petite final race was started just as thunderstorms rolled in. In the petite final, the UMW crew was second across the finish line, but the results are listed as the race being cancelled since the head referee cancelled the race due to thunder.
The UMW women's varsity pair of Lauren Chartier and Kylie Marston, in their first pair race, rowed very well and finished in second place just 8 seconds behind winner North Park (Chicago) and 47 seconds ahead of third place Susquehanna.
The women's 4+ heat racing saw the UMW crew finishing in fourth place behind Lafayette, Army, and Loyola, but well ahead of Bryn Mawr, thus earning the UMW crew a spot in the petite final. In the petite final held later in the day, the UMW crew faced much stronger headwinds. The UMW crew just missed third place Maryland by 5 seconds, finishing in fourth place more than 90 seconds ahead of Bryn Mawr.
