ARLINGTON, VA - The \#23/\#25 University of Mary Washington women's basketball team saw its 12-game winning streak come to an end with a 54-38 defeat at seventh-ranked Marymount University on Wednesday night in Capital Athletic Conference action on Wednesday. The Eagles fall to 18-4 overall and 13-1 in CAC play, while the Saints improve to 24-1 and 13-1.
In a matchup between two of the top defensive teams in the nation, neither side disappointed defensively, as the score stood at 27-17 at halftime. Neither team scored a point in the opening four-plus minutes of the game. Mary Washington shot just 25% from the floor in the game, and the Saints shot 40%. Marymount committed 20 turnovers, while UMW committed 19.
The difference in the game was the Saints' three-point shooting, as Marymount made 9-23 three pointers, a full half of their total points. Marymount also enjoyed a 38-30 rebounding advantage. UMW never led in the game.
Mary Washington was led by sophomore Jenna McRae (Springfield, Va., Annandale)'s 12 points and Katie Wimmer (Vienna, Va., James Madison)'s 11. Marymount was led by Amanda Billy's 12 and Tara Eddy's 10.
The Eagles will host Salisbury University on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. for Senior Day.
