Both UMW Basketball Teams Receive Votes in First National Polls

Both the University of Mary Washington women's and men's basketball teams have received votes in the first national polls, as were released late Monday night. This marks the first time in school history that both teams have been in the national rankings at the same time.

The women received 34 votes after their 4-0 start, and are four spots from the 25th place team in votes. The men received 11 votes, and are 17 spots from the 25th place team.

The women's highest ranking ever came in 2005-06, when the Eagles spent much of the year ranked first in the nation, concluding an undefeated regular season. The men's highest ranking came in 2002-3, when the team reached as high as 17th in the country.

Both teams will be back in action on Wednesday when they visit Stevenson University for a doubleheader at 6 and 8 p.m.
