The University of Mary Washington’s women’s basketball and soccer teams got their hands dirty this weekend while volunteering at the Friends of the Rappahannock Riverfest. Members of each program assisted guests by handing out buckets of crabs in this all-you-can-eat crab feast and auction fundraiser.
The Riverfest serves as an important fundraiser for FOR, which is an organization dedicated to maintaining the water quality and scenic beauty of the Rappahannock River. The event brings in about $150,000 each year, and supports the organization in its three main efforts: restoration, education and advocacy. FOR works closely with local governments and schools to educate students and the community on environmental responsibility and the importance of protecting the Rappahannock River.
