The Generals outscored the Eagles, 9-4, in the second half to pull away. Senior Brittany Butler (Easton, Conn., Joel Barlow) scored three times for UMW, who got two goals from sophomore attacker Allie Kimmelman (Burke, Va., Robinson). Washington & Lee was led by Emmy Matthews' four goals and two assists.
Mary Washington led in shots, 30-27, and in ground balls, 19-18. Each team committed 22 turnovers. Freshman Leigh Ann Redefer (Lewes, Del., Cape Henlopen) made three saves and Kathryn Stiltz (Marietta, Ga., Walton) two in splitting time in the Eagle goal.
Sophomore Jenny Atmar (Houston, Texas, Bellaire) had five ground balls and two caused turnovers for the Eagles, who will visit Randolph-Macon College on Tuesday at 4:00 p.m.
