#20 UMW Women's Lax Tops Marymount, 20-6

Sophomore All-American Catherine Kennedy (Baltimore, Md., Baltimore Lutheran) scored four goals and added three assists, and fellow sophomore All-America Allie Kimmelman (Burke, Va., Robinson) added three goals and three assists to lead the 20th-ranked University of Mary Washington women's lacrosse team to a 20-6 win over Marymount University on Wednesday in Capital Athletic Conference action. The Eagles improve to 6-2 overall, while the Saints fall to 2-7.

Kimmelman opened the scoring just 1:30 into play, but the Saints tied the score on their first shot, from Sara Horne at 26:46 remaining. From there, the Eagles scored five straight goals to seize command of the game. Five different players scored during the run.

After a Marymount goal, Kennedy scored her second score, and freshman Keller Torrey (Roswell, Ga., Centennial) added a free position goal to push the score to 8-2. The Eagles scored six straight goals to up the lead to 14-3 before Marymount scored in the final minute to make the score 14-4 at halftime. Senior Brittany Butler (Easton, Conn., Joel Barlow) scored twice in that run.

The second half saw the teams trade goals before Kennedy and Erin Murphy (Virginia Beach, Va., Bishop Sullivan) upped the lead to 17-5 with 23 minutes left. The Eagles scored the final three goals of the game over the final 11 minutes for the 20-6 win.

Mary Washington outshot Marymount, 51-11, and had 37 ground balls to 28 for the Saints. The Eagles won 21 of 29 draw controls in the game. Freshman Leigh Ann Redefer (Lewes, Del., Cape Henlopen) made three saves for the Eagles, sharing the nets with fellow frosh Kathryn Stiltz (Marietta, Ga., Walton), who played the second half.

In addition to Kennedy and Kimmelman, Katie Wallis (Cypress, Texas, Cy-Creek) added two goals and two assists, Butler added three goals and an assist, and Erin Murphy and Addie Hawley (Lutherville, Md., St. Pauls) each scored twice.

The Eagles will host Stevenson university in another CAC game on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
