UMW's Kennedy Gains CAC Women's Lax Player of the Week
Mary Washington senior midfielder CATHERINE KENNEDY (Baltimore,
Md./Baltimore Lutheran) and York freshman defender ALLISON GREEN
(Ellicott City, Md./Howard) were named the Women's Lacrosse Players
of the Week.
Kennedy was named the
CAC Offensive Player of the Week after exploding for 15 goals in a
pair of victories, including a first-round CAC playoff decision
over Marymount. She started the week with four goals and a
helper in a non-conference victory over Christopher Newport, then
found the back of the net a record 11 times in Saturday's
first-round playoff triumph over Marymount. Kennedy, who also
contributed five ground balls and four draw controls this week, is
UMW's career scoring leader.
Green was picked as the
CAC Defensive Player of the Week compiling scooping up four ground
balls, causing two turnovers and gaining a draw control in YCP's
12-7 victory over St. Mary's. Green, who also contributed an
assist to the attack, sparked a defensive effort that held SMC to
just 16 shots. She also helped the Spartans record their
team-record seventh CAC win of the season and secure a home game in
the CAC semifinals for the first time in team history.
