UMW Women's Lacrosse Pulls Away at Frostburg in CAC Action, 22-6

The University of Mary Washington broke open a tight game near the end of the first half and rolled to a 22-6 victory at Frostburg State University on Saturday in Capital Athletic Conference action. The Eagles improve to 6-2 on the season.

UMW jumped out to a 4-1 lead early, as Emily Atkinson scored in the opening minute, and after a FSU goal, tallies from Kara Hogan and a pair from freshman Kelsey Vincent. With 3:04 left in the first half, UMW held a 6-4 lead, as Jenna Petrucelli and Megan Gersbeck scored next. Atkinson and Hogan connected for goals to give UMW a 10-6 halftime advantage.

The Eagles erupted for 12 second half goals without allowing a score. Petrucelli and Atkinson led UMW with five goals and an assist apiece, while Hogan, Vincent, and Corinne Wiederkehr each scored three times.Kate Smucker scored twice in the second half.

The Eagles led in shots, 37-21, and went 18-20 on clear attempts, while limiting the hosts to 9-17 on clear attempts. Kelly Dean made four saves and Taylor Paige added six in goal for the Eagles, while Emily Mott had three ground balls and four draw controls to lead UMW defensively.

Mary Washington will host Randolph-Macon College on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m.
