Sophomore forward Sunny Herold (Palmyra, Va., Fluvanna) scored a goal and added two assists as the University of Mary Washington women's soccer team scored four times in the second frame in topping Wesley College, 4-0, in Capital Athletic Conference play on Saturday afternoon at the Battleground. UMW improves to 4-1-1 on the season, and 1-0 in CAC play.
After a scoreless first half in which UMW held a 4-0 edge in shots, the Eagles went to work early in the second half, as junior forward Amy Olson (Crofton, Md., Arundel) scored on an assist from Herold at 46:22. Sophomore midfielder Meghan Seelye (Palmyra, Va., Fluvanna) upped the lead to 2-0 just 3:22 later on an assist from Herold.
Herold scored at 72:56 on an assist from junior Marianne Dubinsky (Blacksburg, Va., Blacksburg). Freshman Sarah McMillan (Vienna, Va., James Madison) scored her first collegiate goal in the final minute on an assist from freshman Erin Reynolds (Oakton, Va., Oakton).
The Eagles outshot Wesley, 14-1, in the game, and had two corner kicks to one for the Wolverines. Wesley goalkeeper Kim Fearnbach had six saves for the guests.
Mary Washington will return to action on Sunday when they visit Averett University at noon.
