UMW Women's Soccer Tops N.C. Wesleyan, 5-1
Five different players all scored goals to lead the University of Mary Washington women's soccer team to a 5-1 victory at North Carolina Wesleyan College on Wednesday afternoon in Rocky Mount, N.C. The Eagles improve to 7-3-1 on the year.
Freshman Tina Rader (Springfield, Va., West Springfield) got the Eagles on the board first, scoring on an assist from Madison Hanley (Virginia Beach, Va., First Colonial) at 4:16. Ten minutes later sophomore Sunny Herold (Palmyra, Va., Fluvanna) scored unassisted to up the lead to 2-0. Senior midfielder Sarah Tryon (Fairfax Station, Va., South County) upped the lead to 3-0 before halftime, scoring unassisted at 28:50.
Eagle freshman Erin Reynolds (Oakton, Va., Oakton) scored on a Caroline Wampler (Attleboro, Mass., Attleboro) assist at 54:24 to push the lead to 4-0, before the Bishops scored in the 70th minute. Junior Karen Strat (Oakton, Va., Oakton) scored on a Tryon assist at 84:08 to cap the scoring.
Mary Washington outshot NC Wesleyan, 31-7, and had five corner kicks to none for the hosts. Junior Tina Brehm had two saves for the Eagles, while Rachel Townsend had eight save for NCWC.
The Eagles will visit Haverford College on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
