UMW Volleyball Sweeps N.C. Wesleyan in Opener

The University of Mary Washington volleyball team used a balanced attack at the net to win a three-game match at North Carolina Wesleyan College on Wednesday night in both teams' season opener. Game scores were 25-18, 25-18, 25-13.

Junior Tola Adebanjo (Overland Park, Ks., Blue Valley Northwest) had eight kills, six digs, and four aces, while Laura Gomez (Charlottesville, Va., Albemarle), and Karissa Herrick (Colts Neck, N.J., Colts Neck) each had eight kills and freshman Hannah Lawson (Charlottesville, Va., Albemarle) added seven kills and 10 digs. Junior Katie Shiflett (Weyers Cave, Va., Fort Defiance) had 28 assists for the Eagles, while Kaitlynn Wickersham (Midlothian, Va., Manchester) added 12 digs and Christine Tran (Oakton, Va., Oakton) added eight digs.

The Eagles will return to action on Friday afternoon at the Franklin & Marshall College Invitational.
