Fredericksburg, Va.—The University of Mary Washington women's volleyball team defeated St. Mary's (Md.) on Saturday afternoon, . The Eagles improve to (13-8, 3-1 CAC) on the year.
The Eagles and Seahawks exchanged points to open up game one. UMW put together a 3-0 run to make the score 14-11 in favor of the Eagles. They extended that lead to 17-13, forcing a Seahawk timeout. St. Mary's fought back, but the Eagles won game one 25-20, ending on a Kayla Crawford kill.
Game two saw the Eagles jump out to an early 7-2 lead. They extended the lead to 11-4 before the Seahawks closed the gap. They forced a UMW timeout after closing the gap to 17-15. Following the timeout, the Eagles went on a mini 3-0 to force a Seahawk timeout at 20-15. UMW closed the game winning 25-17.
The Eagles and Seahawks started out game three like game one, back and forth. UMW took a 15-10 lead using a 5-0 run to fuel it. They extended the lead to 18-12 forcing a Seahawk timeout. The Eagles closed out the game and the match, winning 25-15.
The Eagles return to action on Wednesday, October 23rd. The team travels to Wesley for a match beginning at 7:00 p.m.
