Four Eagles Named to All-CAC Women's Soccer Team

YORK, Pa. - St. Mary's senior forward Gillian Sawyer became the fifth player in Capital Athletic Conference history to secure multiple Player of the Year awards after receiving the honor for the second-straight season in 2016, highlighting the All-CAC Women's Soccer squad.

Sawyer joined an elite club of multiple Player of the Year winners that includes Frostburg State's Adria Graham (2011 & 2012) and the Mary Washington trio of Ellen Anderson (1999 & 2000), Stefanie Teter (1993, 1994 & 1995), and Kelly Walsh (1992 & 1993). Sawyer has now earned all-conference distinction each of her four years as a Seahawk (1st & POY in '15 & 16, 2nd in '13 & '14).

Christopher Newport's Keiley McCarthy and Dan Weiler collected the other major conference awards, headlining a group of six All-CAC nods for the CAC champion Captains. McCarthy was named Rookie of the Year, becoming the third CNU players to win the honor in the last four seasons. Weiler grabbed his second Coach of the Year honor, with the other coming in 2013. He is the fifth coach in conference history to win multiple Coach of the Year awards.

Five Captains were selected as first-team all-stars, with one landing on the second team. Senior forward Victoria Perry, the 2014 CAC Player of the Year, earned her third-straight first team honor, while sophomore midfielder Gabby Gillis made the leap to first team after nabbing second-team accolades in 2015. CNU was well-represented on the defensive side of the ball, as McCarthy, junior defender Danielle Pratt, and junior goalkeeper Carly Maglio each claimed first-team accolades. Freshman forward Carson Pokorny rounded out the CNU all-stars as a second team selection.

Sawyer and St. Mary's also collected six spots on the All-CAC squad. Sophomore midfielder Emily Huey joined Sawyer on the first team, while senior midfielder Claire Kostelnik, senior defender Carolyn Barranco, junior defender Lane Brooks, and junior goalkeeper Sydney Larkin were each named to the second team. Kostelnik (1st in '15, 2nd in '13) and Larkin (2nd in '14) were repeat honorees for the Seahawks.

CNU and St. Mary's combined to grab six of the 11 defensive positions on the All-CAC team.

CAC runner-up Frostburg State landed four on the All-CAC team, led by first-teamers in junior midfielder Melanie Bell and freshman forward Brooke Shehade. Junior defender Lia Kelly and sophomore defender Alyssa Malanik were named to the second team for the Bobcats. Malanik, a 2015 first-team pick, was the lone repeat all-star for FSU.

Mary Washington also secured four spots on the all-conference squad, with senior midfielder Maryfay Jackson and freshman defender Corinne Carson earning first-team honors. Sophomore forward Allye Reynolds and sophomore midfielder Christina Carlston were second-team selections. Jackson, a second-teamer in 2015, was the lone returning All-CAC honoree for the Eagles.

Three Salisbury players earned All-CAC recognition, with junior forward Ruthie Lucas and senior defender Lindsey Andonian leading the way as first-teamers. Andonian grabbed the second all-conference honor of her career, having earned second-team recognition in 2013. Senior midfielder Jenny Gavigan was s second-team pick, earning the third all-conference nod of her career.

York and Wesley each placed two on the all-conference second team. For York, junior forward Maxine Herman and senior defender Emily Chambers received their first all-star awards. Wesley sophomore midfielder Janiah Moore and freshman forward Aleya Cummings also earned second-team honors. Moore was a second-team pick in 2015 as well.

Penn State Harrisburg was represented on the All-CAC squad by sophomore Kristen Stark, who nabbed second-team honors. Stark was a first-team pick and the Rookie of the Year in 2015.
